[認識信義宗人物]今天(10/16)是Robert David Preus (1924-1995)的生日。

Robert D. Preus生於1924年，其兄長J. A. O. Preus II曾任美國路德會(LCMS)會長。Robert D. Preus先後於Luther College, Luther Seminary (St. Paul, MN), Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary (Mankato, MN)就讀，1947年被按立，1952年自愛丁堡大學獲得博士學位。獲博士學位後，曾先後於麻州劍橋市及明州Fosston擔任牧者。

1957年，他加入Concordia Seminary (St. Louis, MO)擔任系統神學講師，並且他的書The Inspiration of Scripture: A Study of the Theology of the Seventeenth Century Lutheran Dogmaticians再度出版。他在Concordia Seminary任教時，正值聖經啟示教義的爭論困擾美國的信義宗教會（包括Concordia Seminary)，他拒絕教導及使用歷史批判法解釋聖經。

1969年，他從史特拉斯堡大學獲得第二個博士學位，後來並出版The Theology of Post-Reformation Lutheranism（兩卷），此著作使他被視為英語界17世紀信義宗神學的領導詮釋者。1974年，他被任命為Concordia Theological Seminary (Springfield, IN)院長，1976年該校遷往Fort Wayne。1991年他創設Luther Acadmy，其目標為發表認信信義宗教義(Confession Lutheran Dogmatics)系列著作。

他也參與簽署1978年的芝加哥聖經無誤聲明，以及三次聖經無誤國際高峰會(1978, 1982, 1986)，並擔任新國際版聖經(NIV)翻譯。
